SO SAD ...

Last time we were in Tulum, in Mexico's Yucatan,
my son found a couple of sea turtles one morning.

Each of them had patches of gooey oil on them,
remnants of the Bay of Campeche spill
that had occured a couple of years before.

One of them had her entire face covered with it.
All were dead but one that we were able to save ...

Cause of death: suffocation by the skin...

The BIG oil spill happening right now in the Golf of Mexico
worries me and makes me feel extremely sad.

Sad for the people who died during the accident and

sooooooooo

worried for all species that will have to fight for their life
in the coming hours, days, weeks, years ...

Makes me cry ...

MY PREHISTORIC SIDE ...

I strongly believe that what I am today

is the result of a mixture of several previous lives ...

No, seriously...

I think at one time I must have been Mexican. I am so inspired by this country, its people, its art, its land, its language...

Then, at another time, I must have been a Native American, knowing the name of every plant and animal, crafting with natural fibers, being in touch with my soul and the entire earth, fishing and hunting and gardening daily and giving thanks to higher beings for my acts...

I must have also been a cavewoman, an animal of some sorts, with a somewhat bigger brain then the other species around me, a female cromagnon dressed in fur, barefoot, with unkept long hair, a basic mother, protector of my grotto and my children, companion of my mate, unknowingly part of the beginning of the humanity...

I believe this is the reason why I am happy with little daily miracles.

Why I am a lover of nature in general.

Where I got my crafty and creative flow.

Why I am not a social or mundane person.

Why I relate to the moon so much.

Why I adore the water of rivers and oceans.

Why my family is so important.

Why I know who I am ...

I finished this commissioned painting yesterday,

tribal critters of all sorts,

a bit mexican, Native American and prehistoric ...

JUMPING WITH JOY !!!

I always take my paintings across the border to make things easier for my US customers.

I took this BIG Frida Kahlo painting with me Saturday morning to drive through the Quebec-Vermont border.

I grabbed the attention of a certain gentleman watching me going through my wrapping-thang at the post office, so much bubble warp and pink paper all over the place ...

He called me this morning and commissioned me to do

5 BIG (3'x5') Frida and Dia de Muertos-style paintings

for his new country house!

Oh la la !

LOVE these Monday mornings !

I WANT MORE BABIES ! ! !

I want them round, I want them pink. I want them chubby, I want them soft and rosy. And I want tons of them ! I just gotta have more ...

No, no ... You got me wrong here !

Plastic, vinyl or rubber I want more babies ... to add to this collection of mine that started a few weeks ago when I started spotting them in garage sales and thrift shops.

Hairless
and nude, I just love how they look grouped together on a shelf in my living room.

If you know of any abandoned baby dolls in need of a good home, I will take good care of them !

LOVE IS ...

not simple ...

Love is friendship ...

Love is respect ...

Real love lasts ...

Love is loving yourself first ...

Love is not having to love everything about your loved one ...

Love can be simple in a way ...

and complicate, detailed and unusual in others ...

Love is listening and hearing ...

Love is ...

My husband offered me this metal sculpture for no reason yesterday.

About love ...

Our love ...

Love you, love ...

TRANSPLANT A LITTLE, PAINT A LITTLE, LISTEN ...

to music a little ...

The weekend came and went pretty fast ...

The weather was nasty, sleet, wind, rain, you name it, so staying inside was not something I had to fight against ...

I painted all day Saturday while my son played guitar. Nothing sweet and soft ...

NO !

U2, White Stripes, Green Day, Guns & Roses, AC/DC !!!

With some Bob Marley and Heart's rifs in between ...

I transplanted my seedlings all day Sunday, always much more work than I recall from the previous year ...

Jalapenos and habaneros chilis, wild Mexican cherry tomatoes, Italian tomatoes and giant Whopper tomatoes, orange and red chards and flowers, of course, so many kinds of flowers ...

I have no idea where and how I will find the time to grow all these in my garden ...

But I will ...

New original paintings are on their way to show you soon !

I finished two commissioned pieces yesterday but I can not show you the result since both of them are gifts and their recipient follow my blog ...

My first week on Facebook has been very interesting ... but my question is

Where do people on Facebook find the time to spend all these minutes chatting away and how do they manage to still find the time to do their art as well ?

I must be mentally challenged, but I have a tough time keeping up with answering emails and posting pictures on the web ...

Bonne semaine !

ONE EGG, TWO EGGS, THREE EGGS, FOUR ...

I have been working hard in my studio trying to finish 2 commissioned paintings and a few more to list in my Etsy store next week.

But I had to take a break and spend some time outside hunting and searching and looking everywhere ... to find out where the girls have been laying their eggs out lately.

The Jello-Cockadoodle comfrontation has left them nervous and unpredictable.

Nothing in the coop for almost a week now ...

I FOUND THEM !!!

Under the garden tiller parked under my pear tree ...

Talk about a nest !!!

We are having fritatta for supper tonite !

LIGHT UP MY HEART ...

Look what I got in the mail this morning !

A surprise from the Yucatan !

From my friend Juanita who was visiting with her brother in the Yucatan for a few weeks !

When I was there a little while ago, I fell in love with these hanging lamps made up of dried gourds, or calabashes if you prefer, hollowed and carved. Some have inserted glass ball and holes covered with coconut fiber to create light texture.

Isn't this one extraordinaria?

I left Mexico planning to purchase a few of them but we had car problems and could not drive to the markets ...

Needless to say I was so happy to find this treasure in a beaten box at the post office !

Everytime I light it up, I will hear the waves of the Carribean ocean and feel the spicy breeze that made these lamps dance all together at night in a far away corner of my heart ...

Muchas gracias, amiga de mi corazon ...

Mi hermana mexicana ...

SIMPLE ...

Love the sun shining through a dirty window in my studio ...

Love the color memories of undiscarded dried up acrylic paint in plastic jars ...

Does not take much to make me happy ...

COCKADOODLE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING ...

Early Thursday morning, we found our dear mean older rooster Jello lying half-dead in the coop ...

Seems like young lad Cockadoodle felt like having some with the girls and did not want any competition around ...

We fenced him to keep him away and for the first time in 6 years was able to pick up Jello in my arms and hold him.

Poor thing had just about lost his comb and his ennemy had tried to get at his eye too but missed.

I sat with Jel in the warm sun, talking to him and cleaning him up the best I could.

But I could see that he was hurt, not only physically but also in his man, I mean rooster, pride.

He was not the ONE anymore ...

I thought for a while that he would not survive the attack and would just die in his corner...

But no ! Jello is the Master of Meanness, isn't he? And he sure is a tough big bird ...

The girls were worried and running around in circles.

And of course, Cockadoodle was getting ready at a second try...

I spent Sunday making calls and trying to find someone who would adopt the young rooster for purposes other that a meal. And I did !!!

Cockadoodle has now been relocated in a nice and clean old-fashioned farm nearby with not 6 but 23 hens and no rooster around.

I know a rooster who's gonna be partying for a few days in a row now ...

Peace has returned to the coop, Jello has recovered fully, maybe with a bit less of a spiky comb, and the girls are delighted.

Don't you love fairy tales with a happy ending?

THIS and THAT and MORE ...

We survived a Easter weekend with a house full of impromtu friends and family, a muy caliente sun that raised the thermometer to 84 degrees F, a constant loop of White Stripes music playing on Ulysse's new iPod Touch plugged on mega speakers, two roosters trying to kill each other for the love of a chick and overeating barn-animals-shaped chocolate of all kinds, lemon-lime cheesecake and coconut and pineaple cupcakes.

Needless to say that I am now walking 5 miles a day to get rid of all these sweet and rich empty calories but miam! which tasted so yummy ...

We worked outside in the garden, getting the soil prepared to bear the next bounty

and cutting fallen trees from the last wind storm.

Not sure I like these incomplete weeks with holiday Mondays and Fridays.

I found it hard to concentrate on working in the studio before the weekend and this week feels like it never started !!!

Tons of new stuff has been thrown my way lately and if I don't want to go completely crazy, I have to stop and take the time to smell the flowers and mostly, get organized !

I will be one of the featured artists in two different gallery shows with a Dia de Muertos theme this fall, both in California and both real hip and funky. How fun and how exciting !

My art, mostly my Frida paintings, will be featured in an upcoming book on Dia de Muertos, again! Fun, fun, fun!

I am FINALLY on Facebook and love it!

It has brought me real good stuff in only a day being there, a commission for a HUGE painting and meeting again with an old friend I lost track of years ago. But I find it can be addictive and so time-consuming! I will be posting on it daily but will not loose myself in the Faceworld! Come over and say Hi!

I will surely not neglect my beloved and comfortable blog though, it is nested right in the middle of my heart ...

I managed to finish 3 new paintings but have not even found the time to photograph them!

Due to the popularity of my little wooden block prints in my Etsy shop, I decided to mount some of my images on larger pieces of wood. Here are the first three large wooden block prints listed on eBay right now. I just love the way they look and holding their weight in my hands. I think these prints are more precious mounted on wood than on regular canvas.

Don't forget my SWEET SPRING PINK GIVEAWAY

is ending tomorrow night, Friday, April 9 !

Hummmm ... I made a giant plate of sushis yesterday and what is left in the refrigerator is now calling me pretty badly now ...

Gotta go !

Love and peace
