Three black cats and a bunch of orange cupcakes ...

A black and white giant skull ...

A big bowl of orange icing ...

The mountain dressed up in an orange costume by the sunset ...

A bright-orange carrot shaped like the devil's fork ...

MY LITTLE GOTHIC ANGEL ...

Finally !

Something new in my shop !

I wanted to paint something unusual for Halloween ...

Something scary ...

Something magic ...

I wanted skulls in there

and some purple too

but I did not want to paint something with pumpkins ...

I wanted to paint something dark

but yet light ...

something bizarre ...

and yet amusing ...

I wanted to paint something in an Halloween ambiance that you can keep on your walls all year around ...

Et voilà !

My little Gothic Angel is now available in my Etsy shop and if you would rather bid on it I have listed it on eBay as well!

Mon coeur EST noir CE SOIR ...

(my heart is dark tonite ...)

I can not wait to show you what else I have been working on!

Stay tuned !

BYE BYE GIRLS ...

Dahlias ...

I love Dahlias ...

They are just my kind of flowers ...

Bold ...

Dramatic ...

Colorful ...

Intense ...

Joyful ...

I start them early in March, simply plant the tubers saved from the previous Summer in flats with a bit of soil. By the time Spring has arrived for good, they stand tall and solid and are almost ready to flower.

And what a show they give !

They keep on flowering from June 'till late October.

I love visiting them early each morning with a cup of coffee in hand. It is like visiting a bunch of old girl friends.

I compliment them on the color of their dress ...

I marvel at their unusual hairdo ...

I even get jealous at their perfection ...

Each year, a new girl or two join the group of gossipers ...

Everyone is welcomed !

Rain or shine, they keep an eye on what's happening in the garden ...

I just adore them !

Then, one morning in fall, I walk to the garden for my daily visit to find out ...

the girls have gone in a deep sleep ...

Southern Quebec is too cold for them !

They have literally disapeared !

So I dig the bulbs, clean them up and dry them near the stove. Then I pack them in wood shavings in boxes and put them away 'till next March.

When the girls will wake up with the first song of the robins ...

Dahlias are snow-birds. You know they just don't dig winter ...

Wonder why I like them so much ?

TWO CEMETARIES, ONE SKULL AND A PAIR OF ORANGE SHOES ...

Cemetaries, skulls and color orange always seem to show off in the month of October right before Halloween.

I am in the middle of finishing the 13 (no! this is not a joke! 13!) different paintings I have been commissioned to do and I have been quite a nice girl staying in my studio and working hard without being tempted to go play outside.

I should never take a vacation from painting! The more I paint, the better I get at it! Instead of thinking and projecting and procrastinating, I ACT ! And the more I act, the easiest it gets! I become a more sure-of-myself artist and a worry-less-about-it person. Excuse my English if I am not too eloquent... But I am pretty sure you guys understand what I mean...

I finished this commissioned painting for a wonderful monkey-and-orange-color-lover client and it was great fun working on it! Thought I would show it to you so you believe me when I say I have been spending real time in my studio !!!

I drove Ulysse to his friend Scott a little while ago and took a few minutes to walk around their orchard to steal a couple of juicy apples, gaze at the amazing view they have from their place and visit the two cemetaries close by.

I walked through the thombstones with the sun shining on my shoulders and I thought how wonderful it would be to rest ...

here ...

forever ...

I love apple season!

The lingering sweet smell of the ripe fruits in the trees follows you wherever you go. Apple growing is big in this region and there are so many kinds of apples I think even if I live until 107 years old, I will still not have tasted every one of them!

At the end of a tiny path, I found this beautiful whethered shed. And on the door of this shed this amazing hand-made skull-and-bones sign warning people of the toxic content behind the door. You know me by now, I am a skull maniac.

Wow! I wanted to take it back with me!

I absolutely love this time of the year when you know nature is putting on its last show of colors before entering a loooooooooooooong hibernating white time off ...

OUR ARK KEEPS ON GROWING ...

Who would have thought ?

On a daily basis, especially in fall, we expect a new abandonned, lost or hurt animal to show up. Our place seems to be a magnet for stray creatures of all sorts ... Cats, dogs, raccoons, porcupines, birds of all sorts, a cow (yes, a stray cow !!!), a few turtles and a fawn. We even adopted an hermit-crab, but this is another story that I will tell in a future post ...

A couple of days ago, someone driving by our place stopped to let us know that he had just witnessed someone in a black car dump a rooster in the field nearby.

A rooster !!!

We immediately ran to the field with our big fishing net hoping to catch it before the night would fall. Poultry does not do too well in the wild at night ...

We found him, standing there, splendid in his feather attire, sure of himself and cocky the way only young roosters can be. But fast like a road-runner ! No way was he going to be approached by humans ! We lost him ...

We went back several times but could not spot him. The next morning, when my rooster Jello started singing around 5 a.m. we heard the other one responding to his call and we were so happy that he had managed to survive through the night.

We went through the same process for two days, seeing him but unable to get near him to catch him ...

This morning when I woke up at 6 a.m. to make coffee I had the most beautiful surprise: There he was ! Waiting in the yard for Master and the girls to come out of their chicken house !

I am so happy !

And everybody seems to be happy to meet each other, even the two guys whom I feared would go in an instant fight !

I told you ! I collect happy moments and tiny life miracles !

This one is a favorite now! He just needs to be named ...

Any suggestions ?

Happy, happy, I am so happy ! ! !
