OUR ARK KEEPS ON GROWING ...

Who would have thought ?

On a daily basis, especially in fall, we expect a new abandonned, lost or hurt animal to show up. Our place seems to be a magnet for stray creatures of all sorts ... Cats, dogs, raccoons, porcupines, birds of all sorts, a cow (yes, a stray cow !!!), a few turtles and a fawn. We even adopted an hermit-crab, but this is another story that I will tell in a future post ...

A couple of days ago, someone driving by our place stopped to let us know that he had just witnessed someone in a black car dump a rooster in the field nearby.

A rooster !!!

We immediately ran to the field with our big fishing net hoping to catch it before the night would fall. Poultry does not do too well in the wild at night ...

We found him, standing there, splendid in his feather attire, sure of himself and cocky the way only young roosters can be. But fast like a road-runner ! No way was he going to be approached by humans ! We lost him ...

We went back several times but could not spot him. The next morning, when my rooster Jello started singing around 5 a.m. we heard the other one responding to his call and we were so happy that he had managed to survive through the night.

We went through the same process for two days, seeing him but unable to get near him to catch him ...

This morning when I woke up at 6 a.m. to make coffee I had the most beautiful surprise: There he was ! Waiting in the yard for Master and the girls to come out of their chicken house !

I am so happy !

And everybody seems to be happy to meet each other, even the two guys whom I feared would go in an instant fight !

I told you ! I collect happy moments and tiny life miracles !

This one is a favorite now! He just needs to be named ...

Any suggestions ?

Happy, happy, I am so happy ! ! !

Yes roosters are beautiful as are chickens and we do have those floating around out in back. My hubby tends to them. Well, he definitely survived the night and now is with his new family. He is a survivor so he could be name "Survivor," or SAMSON and you be Delilah. heheehehe. Silly girl you. Have a great day.I'm going now dear, to soak the chili pasillas and then I'm stuffing them but not sure yet with what. Take care.

He kind of looks like a Sunrise. And roosters do like the sunrise.

You really do live a charmed and charming life.

Lucky you!

OOOOOOH, I LOVE this happy tale!!! What an absolutely stunning rooster! Wow, it's amazing how wonderful things transpire at your home. I am thrilled that he made his way into your brood!!! He is one lucky creature. I am trying to think of a name...he just looks so regal. Maybe Zephyr?
Thanks for sharing!

He's magnificent! Since your other rooster is named Jello, this one can be Pudding. (OK, maybe not the best recommendation for a name)

Doesn't every hen house need a rooster named Chanticleer? And he sounds like a clever bird, so it is fitting.
