EVERYBODY IS GOING CRAZY...

must be a storm is preparing... Yeah, there is a snowstorm going on tonite, I am so glad we did not go shopping in town as we were supposed to... Stayed home all day today, my son is still home with the flue and we spent the day working in my studio. This is our favorite thing...I sketched 6 new paintings, finished a couple of them, read blogs, took a nap, worked some more and got the Xmas decorations boxex out ready for tomorrow. Oh, my God, gotta get the Advent Calendar ready, I almost forgot!!! I fill 24 little brown bags with 24 different little treat, toys, etc. and each advent day, we cross out the day until we reach Xmas Day. I love Advent Calendar, always had one when I was a kid. When my son was younger, the Playmobil ones were our favorites. The kids just love them and the scenes are so beautiful!

So all the animals were acting crazy today, either running after a tail, fighting, running 100 km/hr throught the house, or screaming in a weird tone. Even the turtle was trying to evince the thermometer out of the aquarium. Yep, they were right, there was a storm a comin...

TONITE, THE SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED...

My son was sick all night, he caught something that a lot of kids came back home with yesterday. High fever and vomiting... And now I am starting to feel a little dizzy too so...I am turning out the lights and am quitting for the night. Thanks for your great comments on all the posts on my blog, I love checking them all out. Will get back to you tomorrow, hopefully in better shape...

Bonne nuit!

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER ANGELS

I am so slow today, I can not believe it! It usually happens right before full-moon...Or is it my going to bed 4 days in a row at 3 a.m.? Or is it that I have a couple pieces too much of homemade chocolate fudge with my last coffee and now I feel my sugar rush declining? Or is it the fact that my black old cat Mooli spilled my dirty water bowl on top of my working table about an hour ago, making a nice mess of the sketches, magazines and clippings that were lying there? I am slow as a pink turtle...

I just posted this mother and daughter angel painting on eBay and will also post it on Etsy. I painted it with colors more primitive than my usual palette. I had this sketch done for a long time, finally got to lie it down on a canvas.

I am now working on 3 other paintings at a time, gotta finish them all for tomorrow...

I think I am going to flip back on my shell and take a little rest to rid me of that lazy mood I am in...

Talk to you all later...LuLu

I HAVE BEEN TAGGED TO SAY FIVE RANDOM THINGS ABOUT MYSELF...

Bonsoir everyone!

The Deer and Red Birds painting sold pretty fast, I am so proud of this piece, I think it turned out to be one of my best paintings so far... I finished two more today but did not find the time to photograph them. Will be listing them tomorrow on Etsy and eBay.

I have to tell you how much I love my blog! It is so nice to get comments about my art and day to day life. I do not have to be on the phone (which I hate). I do not have to be away from my studio to get news and give news. The people I exchange with are people who are interested in my artsty life and with whom I generally have many similar interests, either art-wise or life-wise. I get to show my art to people I did not even know existed yesterday, people who's art I admired for a while and and people I now love to hear about. I think having a blog gives a totally new meaning to the word 'WEB'. I have been on the net since the beginning and I can not believe how fast my web is stretching...

I have been tagged by Cheri to say

FIVE RANDOM THINGS ABOUT MYSELF

Here they are:

1. I HAVE A NATURALIST PASSION

I collect rocks, branches, bark, seeds, nuts, bird nests, anything that comes from the sea and that has been washed ashore, sea glass, driftwood but especially bones and skulls and skeletons of all kinds. I have been know as the "Bone Collector" around here, because of my habit of picking them up in my old Lada Jeep whenever I spot some on the backroads. I think that dried up and clean bones at the seashells of the earth... They inspire me...

2. I USED TO BE A MODEL

Yep, when I was 18, I got hired by a modeling agency and worked in that field for a couple years. But I was not fashion-oriented enough and got tired fast of all the running around non-stop and the fake-people world...

3. I BELIEVE IN LOOOOVE

I have been with my husband for almost 25 years even though we have a 16-year age difference. Please take note here that we have been working at home in our respective studios all those years, which mean we have been together FULL-TIME for almost 25 years. Did you thing such a thing existed? 4. I WAS MEXICAN IN A PRIOR LIFE

No, but seriously, I have a passion for Mexico, the land, its people, its art and its history. 3 years in a row, I drove with my husband from Southern Quebec to the Yucatan in Mexico and spent 4 months there each time. We travelled throughout the country, tasted, smelled, experienced, loved, admired so many different things, people, feelings that I seriously think if I had a life previously, I must have been Mexican.

5. I AM A POSITIVE AND HAPPY PERSON

So positive that my husband says it hurts his teeth. There is so much gloom on our planet, we forget about the value of simple things like our family, the color of the grass, the brightness of the sun, the flights of the dragonflies, the smell of the hay, the sparkles in the snow. We forget that we find food to eat everyday, we can have a drink of cool clean water when we are thirsty, we do not have to plug our ears with our fingers to shut the noise of violence, war and death that so many other countries live with daily. We are lucky. And for that, I am thankful, positive and happy...

Well, my turn to tag someone and I chose Jen because I just love her art! Your turn Jen to say five random things about yourself!

A LITTLE WINTER DREAM

SOLD on Etsy!!! Thanks a bunch Beth! I was working late last night and as I was passing the windows in the living room, I stopped and looked outside towards the garden. When the moon lights the landscape, it is just beautiful but when there is snow covering the ground, it is so clear and magnificient....Walking outside in the full moon in winter when the weather is cold but not too cold is one of my favorite things...So, as I was looking outside, I spotted the 3 deers of the other nigh standing there like ghosts under the arch in the garden. It was a magical moment, a little winter dream...So, early in the morning, I went outside to find out what they were after. The apples left on the trees of course, but what seemed to interest them was the hops I grow on arches at both entrances of the garden. Of course, hops is used in beer making and it is said that a little pillow filled with dried hops flowers will put you to sleep in no time. Well, I know beer, especially the dark ales, make me sleepy instantly. And my grandmother told me that when she was girl, her grandmother would tranquilize teething babies with hops tea. So Ulysse asked me if I thought their prints in the snow were going straight or if they were zigzaging...Funny enough, there is a service in Quebec around the holidays, were some people give their time to drive home people who have had a drink too much. And it is called Operation Nez Rouge, which means Red Nose Operation. Well, that deer story and the Red Gros Beak birds who have now arrived in our feeders inspired me this painting, wich I listed on eBay and on Etsy where I will try it for a couple of days. Guess what? I LOVE this blog! It is so much fun to get comments or hear about new people I have never heard about before and discover their world. A bientot! LuLu

I MISS MY ZOE...

My white cat, my dear companion and friend Zoe did not come back home on Halloween day. She went outside as usual early in the morning but never came back...2 years ago, she disapeared for 11 weeks, we were desperately looking for her everywhere. She came back with the first snow one morning and we never found out what had happened to her. It was like a little miracle.
We live on the Pinacle mountain, it is very wild around, we have the forest behind our house. We fall asleep to the coyotes's songs quite often, hear the owls laugh at each other and the deers chat among themselves so we do the fear the wilderness like some others might. I sleep outside without a tent as early as I can in spring and as late as possible in the fall, yet no animals has ever come close to us, except maybe a moose one time, but they are so gentle...
But the badgers and the martens have come back from the south, due to weather pattern and people keep on seeing them around now. They are ferocious animals, not that big, but they can kill a cat or a small dog easily...
The day our Zoe disapeared, the dogs were going wild with barking and running around. It started by our older black cat Moogwai not coming back after a night of rain about a month ago, which was unusual. The same day Zoe did not come back, our poor black and white and grey Pirouette never showed up either. We have been hopefully waiting to see them return home but we no longer have much hope to ever see them again...Well they had a good life, they were all found young, tiny and abandoned, they were spayed and well taken care. They had a wonderful life and we really enjoyed their company...
I finished two paintings today but did not have the right light to photograph them. The days are so short now, the sun goes down at 4:16 p.m. It amazes me that we can live with such a small amount of light. But I managed to take a picture of an assemblage I made with Ulysse. We salvaged the old rusted chicken wire from the coop, bunched it in a manageable form then added to it all kinds of rusted metallic bits and pieces, old glasses, dogs medals, old windchimes pieces, springs and nails and scissors and chains. We left it outside all summer to age it properly. We took it in today and mounted it on a wall in my (well, our studio - my son uses it almost as much as I do). We love the organic look of it and its weirdness...
It's getting late, I must try to go to bed earlier than 2 a.m. I fear I am going to look like an old lady before my time....
Take care of you all,
LuLu

LAZY....

Today, I didn't do much and guess what? It's ok! I wanted to finish a painting but by the time I was ready to sit down in my studio, something else caught my attention and finally, I just gave up the good intention. Needed a break day... I guess I was also a bit disapointed I did not get any bids on two of the paintings I had listed on eBay... Oh well, I guess it is normal not to hit the jackpot every time. Also, I hear a lot of sellers on eBay and Etsy are not selling as well as a few months ago, all this because of the price of gas and the financial situation. Are you feeling this happening or is it just me?
Today was a beautiful day all frosted and sunny. I thought our house looked so pretty I had to show a pic.
My son and I had a treat driving back home from a friend's place at dusk: there was a beautiful deer in our parking and two more eating the apples left on the trees. Just breathtaking, the scene was a perfect nature miracle, something to remind you that nature is always there and so important...
Talk to you all soon,
LuLu

Let it snow...

I just finished this little 8"x8" painting of a girl holding a snowdome. I am pretty happy with the results... The glitter varnish applied on the snow globe and the white fur gives a nice sparkly effect. I have collaged English words this time, "let it snow". My husband thinks that American customers will like my paintings more if the messages are in English rather than in French. Hummm, I am not so sure. I believe the French wording gives my painting a little something different. What do YOU think? I'd love to read your comments!
Well, for those who were getting worried that we would not be getting a white Christmas this year because of global warming, I say 'RELAX' !!! Boy, we have been getting some or a lot of snow daily now for the past 7 days and it is looking A LOT like Xmas...Here's a pic of my dog Bibi after a short couple of minutes stay outside.
And here is another snowy pic, this one of the garden and the chicken coop. Just beautiful, isn't it? It is always great when it is at the beginning of the season but when you get snow, like we do here, until early April, it does not look as pretty by then...
I am trying to finish another of my "message" angels, will try to list it tomorrow. Although I try to give my studio a break on weekends and spend more time doing other stuff than work. I am now off with the nail-studded tires on my car, must go down the hill, the road is covered with ice and I have no choice, I gotta go start my Holiday Shopping. I hate to do it at the last minute. Then, I will be picking up Ulysse at my parent's place, have late supper and maybe play a game of Scrabble with them. I looooooove Friday nights, they are so relaxed....
Talk to you again soon,
A bientôt!

Finally...

between two paintings, I found the time to create my blog site. I have been reading other artists' blogs for a month now and it is a real pleasure to visit a few of them in the morning while I am sipping my first cup of coffee. So, there! All done, my blog will hopefully get better with time. And, before I forget, you will have to get use to my weird English and forgive my many mistakes... A few of you know me from eBay where I have been selling my paintings for almost a year, that is one and off. I just starting selling on Etsy as well. I am a self-taught illustrator and have been working mostly in the editorial and educational fiels, creating images for magazines and school books. But painting on canvas is what I like the most. I will try to post something daily and will use this blog of mine to keep track of what is happening in my life, in my art and in my head. I have been working hard and very late this week, trying to squeeze in 2 commissioned paintings I need to finish by this weekend ande 5 other new paintings I should be able to post on eBay and Etsy tomorrow. I love to work late at night in the silence, no music, only the noise of the cats feet stomping on my studio floor. My son Ulysse, who is now 11 years old, loves to crash on the day-bed in that room during the evening after his homeworks are done and talk about stuff and draw and read until he falls asleep. Often enough, he will sleep the night through while I work till 3 or 4 a.m. when my rooster tells me its time to switch shifts. The Pinacle mountain has been covered in snow for a week now, it seems like it rains everywhere else than here. Snow arrives early and leaves late but it still amazes me that despite these harsh winters we get, our summers get unbearably hot and humid. Zut! I miss the green grass, the flowers, the noise of the insects and the hummingbirds already. Patience.... Hourrah! I sold my first original painting today on Etsy! My little Daring Flower Fairie. Thanks a bunch Kim for coming back for more! Gotta go back to work before yawning takes over creativity! A bientôt! LuLu
